If you have a hectic lifestyle, a stressful job, kids, or all of the above, you know that keeping a clean and tidy household is no easy task. Do you have a messy house or apartment but aren’t sure how to start cleaning it up? Follow these simple tips to get your home into tip-top shape.
First, evaluate your entire home so you can see which areas you should tackle first. Which parts are the dirtiest, or the most cluttered? Is there space for everything? If not, a good place to start is by getting rid of items you don’t need by recycling them, donating them, or throwing them away. This will also make more room for you to organize and clean.
Next, if your household has multiple members, create a chore chart to break down cleaning responsibilities. The chart should list the chore, who will do it and when they’ll do it. Talk to everyone about it and make sure everyone understands and agrees on what they are responsible for. If necessary, organize the chart into daily, weekly and monthly tasks and create incentives for people to finish their duties on time.
Getting motivated to clean is one of the most difficult parts of keeping a clean home. If you’re faced with an especially unpleasant cleaning task, encourage yourself by inviting someone over, blasting your favorite music while you clean, or rearranging the room in the process so that you have a fresh, better-looking space to look forward to when you’re done.
Always start with your least favorite task/room to make sure you get the worst part over with before you’re pooped out.
To save money on cleaning products, use reusable cloths and mops, and use simple, inexpensive cleansers such as soap and water, store-brand cleaners or sale items. Keep all of your cleaning supplies in the same place so that they are easy to access and it will take less time to get everything together.
It will involve some hard work, but if you use the above tips, you’ll get your house looking much better than it did before you started your cleaning program and you will develop some lifelong habits to help you keep your house clean for years to come.
